The Harwood Arena is a newly renovated sports complex at Kean University
in New Jersey. The Arena features a basketball court, indoor track, swimming
pools, exercise and locker rooms. The bleacher seating for the Arena allows
for 3,200 Cougar fans.
Binsky & Snyder became involved early in the project, assisting the
architect and construction management team during the initial planning
efforts. The project was executed during the school year, so careful planning
was necessary to address the safety of the students and the ongoing operations
of nearby facilities and classroom activities.
The major component of Binsky's scope was the installation of ninety
300 ft deep geothermal wells. The wells were utilized for the heating
and cooling medium required for the 58 heat pumps throughout the facility.
Binsky installed two 65 ton gas-driven roof mounted chillers in support
of the aquatic facilities.
Binsky was proud to be a part of this green initiative for Kean University,
and the Cougars were able to begin their new season in an impressive state-of-the-art
