The $100 million expansion of Rutgers Football Stadium increased the current
capacity to 57,000 fans by closing in the South end. While the HVAC systems
consisted of small unitary systems for cooling and heating, the plumbing
systems were expansive and complex. The challenge of installing plumbing
systems for Rutgers Stadium came from the complex building structure and
the extremely aggressive schedule.
In order to keep pace with the accelerated milestones, Binsky & Snyder
pre-fabricated all toilet room batteries for 350 plumbing fixtures, allowing
for just-in-time deliveries. This effort helped maintain the critical
path, enabling other trades to commence their work immediately. Other
project challenges included the installation of piping mains underneath
the new bleacher structure at an elevation greater than 50 feet, requiring
extensive use of aerial platforms and manlifts. In the end, Rutgers was
able to fill the seats for their season opener.
