Picatinny Arsenal Energy Retrofit
Picatinny Arsenal is the Army's principle research, development and engineering facility for weapon systems. Situated on a 6,500 acre military installation located in Northwest NJ, Picatinny is a one-of-a-kind facility that provides virtually all of the lethal mechanisms used by our Army.
Binsky was the prime contractor for this design/build project. Binsky decentralized 45 buildings, making major infrastructure improvements to the heating distribution systems for the Arsenal's 250+ buildings.
Binsky reconfigured the Arsenal's central heating system by installing 56 new steam boilers, furnaces, unit heaters, electric heat and propane to gas conversions. Binsky & Snyder applied nearly every heating technology available to meet the unique needs of this facility.
The redesign allows Picatinny to minimize the risks associated with a centralized plant, while also making progress towards standardization and modernization of their heat distribution systems.
Replacing the aging centralized steam boiler plant also reduced the natural gas and oil consumption by approximately 50 percent.
Picatinny won the Secretary of the Army Energy & Water Management Award.
