Prudential Center Arena
The Prudential Center located in Newark, NJ opened in October, 2007 – creating a new destination for sports and entertainment in the NJ/NYC region. The PruCenter, or “The Rock” as it has affectionately been nicknamed, is home to the NHL New Jersey Devils, Seton Hall basketball, and MISL Ironmen. It has also hosted numerous concerts, including a 10 night opening performance by NJ native, Jon Bon Jovi.
The estimated final cost of this milestone project was $375 million. The 18,000 seat Arena features a large array of amenities: 76 luxury suites, 750 flat screen TVs, multiple restaurants, bar lounges, retail stores, and numerous concession stands. The hockey team has a second full size practice rink, extensive locker rooms, and workout facilities as well.
Binsky & Snyder was awarded the HVAC, plumbing, and control work for this exciting new venue. Binsky worked closely with the Devil’s management and owners early on in the process, providing value engineering and cost savings opportunities.
The project had an ambitious schedule, with a hard end date of a sold-out opening Devil’s game and concert. Working and coordinating diligently with all the construction team members, the Arena was ready on time. Binsky field crew topped off at ~100 workers.
Binsky developed and implemented a prefabrication process to deliver the toilet room batteries to the site completed on a frame and ready for installation. This directly expedited the plumbing installations for these areas. Each flush valve was customized with a Devil’s logo.
Binsky & Snyder provided the following mechanical components for this significant project:
- Prefabricated modular Penthouse with chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and pumping systems located 110 ft high on rooftop
- 220,000 ft of piping (carbon, copper, cast iron, and PVC)
- 38 Air Handler Units
- 5 large roof-mounted dehumidifiers
- 2 -1,000 gallon hot water heaters
- 100+ fan coil units
- 435 water closets, 260 urinals
- 465 sinks , 20 drinking fountains, 45 showers
Binsky is proud to be part of this landmark, award-winning project, a critical piece of the revitalization effort for Newark.
